How Can You Observe the International Day of the African Child?
Four decades ago, more than 20,000 South African students in the township of Soweto took to the streets demanding to be taught in their language. These saw armed police officers respond by murdering hundreds of protesters. It’s now a public holiday in South Africa known as Youth Day. It’s also recognized as the International Day of the African Child throughout the world. The International Day of the African Child focuses on the barriers African children face to receiving a quality education. So, let us share some love and observe this day together; and pay our respects to past students who gave their lives to their community by helping students today achieve their goals. The International Day of the African Child

Volunteer
Another way to celebrate the International Day of the African Child in Kenya is to engage with your local school community. Share Some Love Foundation is at the forefront to ensure that the Kenyan street child has access to quality education.
We also do one-on-one mentorship, especially for teens who need guidance on career and life skills. Through this, we can match the teens with a mentor in line with their career path. This mentor walks with them and checks on them regularly to see their progress and address their needs.
You can also volunteer by joining our mentorship program as a mentor and help us impart valuable knowledge to the young teens on the streets to make them productive members of society. We often organize events you can volunteer for such as tree planting, workshops, street dining programs, and visits to juvenile and children’s homes.
Through these interactions, when doing activities together, including cleaning, cooking, fellowships, etc, we can give street families hope, a sense of belonging, and acceptance as members of the Kenyan community. You can check our calendar of events and see how you can help us share some love with the Kenyan street child.
